PAN Vision supports Save the Children Since 1st of July 2009 Pan Vision has entered an agreement with Save the Children in Sweden where 10 SEK of each sold game in the educational "School help" series on PC are donated to a project run by Save the Children called Rewrite the Future. The goal of the project is to get children in nine regions of Côte d'Ivoire ability to access quality education in a safe and participatory learning environment. During the first 6 months Pan Vision has donated more the 200 000 SEK. Summary of achievements and challenges during 2009 - 63 primary schools were rehabilitated and equipped with furniture, leading to a 15% increase in enrolment
- 81,541 students received school kits and 491 teachers received teacher's kits in the 2008-2009 school year
- 14,803 children (including 6,648 girls) who otherwise could not access primary school enjoyed their right to a basic education thanks to 136 non-formal education centres supported by Save the Children
- 1800 teachers, 91 local pedagogical advisors and 408 volunteer community educators received training on the new government child-centred skills-based pedagogy, child rights and child protection (including alternatives to physical and humiliating punishment)
- 45 non-formal education centres received notebooks, pens and recreational materials for children, and school registers, geometry instruments, teaching manuals and chalk for teachers. Many centres also received furniture and materials for repairs, providing a safer and more stimulating environment for children.
- Teachers? Codes of Conduct were developed and introduced into 1801 Save the Children supported schools
- Save the Children successfully advocated for a ban on physical and humiliating punishment in all schools throughout the country. The regulation was drafted by the Ministry together with Save the Children, and was formally approved by the Minister of Education on September 28, 2009.
Recently Pan Vision has entered an agreement with Save the Children in Finland also supporting Rewrite the Future for 2010. That campaign will start in April and we have high expectations that the results will be as successful as in Sweden.
